ModA Curations is pleased to announce Encore, the solo debut of emerging Austrian artist Simon Kubik in the United States. Kubik’s new body of work offers an emotional perspective on human resilience, a reemergence of self. Curated by Sia Fang, this exhibition marks the fourth and final installment of ModA’s 2025 curatorial year, defined by the overarching theme “Love in conversation with death”. Encore will open with a reception on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 7-10 pm and continue to be on view until January 18, 2026. Programming highlights will include an artist talk on December 14.
EXHIBITION TEXT
“Encore.”
As a continuation of ModA’s exhibitional series around the human experience, Simon Kubik’s Encore offers a translation of humanity’s stubborn and remarkable tenacity to life moving ever forward. Despite inevitable adversity and emotional pitfalls, human nature is defined through our underlying resilience and inherent drive to continue forward, onward, and upward.
In his characteristic style, Kubik paints Encore through his use of light as a visual key to evocation of emotion, the kind felt in memories and imagination. However, with a new flare of bold, defiant color, Encore underscores a distinct reemergence of self-identity, renewed. Kubik explores this element of the human condition through symbolic forms, often unraveled and abstract, yet unintuitively grounded.
“It is the being there, the being here,
that we can celebrate as a form of gain, a recovery from what has been,
from what should no longer be.
We have returned, yes, more than before.
And now, it shall begin.”
